Find Your Size

Frame size is the one thing a photograph cannot tell you — and it is the most common reason people hesitate before buying eyewear online. It takes about a minute to settle.

The Three Numbers

Every frame carries three measurements, printed in small type on the inside of one temple arm. They look like this:

52 ☐ 18  140

  • 52 — the lens width, measured across one lens at its widest point
  • 18 — the bridge, the gap between the two lenses that rests on your nose
  • 140 — the temple length, the arm that runs over your ear

All three are in millimetres.

The Number We Show

The size on every product page — 52 mm, 55 mm, 58 mm — is the lens width. It is the number that decides whether a frame sits correctly on your face, and it is the one to match.

The Easiest Way to Choose

Find a pair you already own and like the fit of. Turn one arm over and read the numbers inside. Order the same lens width, or within two millimetres of it, and the new frame will sit almost exactly as your old one does.

This works across brands. The measurement is a standard, not a size label.

If You Have Nothing to Measure

As a starting point, by lens width:

  • 45–49 mm — narrow
  • 50–53 mm — medium
  • 54–57 mm — wide
  • 58 mm and above — extra wide

Three checks tell you whether a frame fits, whatever the numbers say. The frame should be roughly as wide as your face, not wider. Your eyes should sit near the centre of each lens, not toward the inside edge. And the arms should rest against the sides of your head without pressing.

Caught Between Two Sizes

For optical frames, the smaller of the two is usually the better choice — a prescription lens grows thicker and heavier the larger the frame it has to fill.

For sunglasses, the larger is usually better — more coverage, and a little more shade.

If It Still Isn't Right

Eligible frames can be returned within 14 days, unworn and in their original packaging, for a full refund. Gift cards and sale items are excluded from change-of-mind returns. This does not affect our remedies for damaged, defective or incorrect items. See our Refund Policy for the full terms.

And if you would rather ask first, tell us the numbers from a pair you own and we will tell you which of ours match. Call (917) 939-6885 or write to support@bestvisionoptics.com.
